    Description

Unique Short Sword or large knife presumably from the area of Thailand/Siam (possible influence of India).  This blade comes from an extensive collection of multicultural antique weapons which was displayed in a Tucson AZ store in the 1950's and 60's.  Extensive engraving with scenes appearing to show a Siamese royal mounted on an elephant and on the obverse a Thai temple scene.  The long curved handle is carved from buffalo horn.  The sheath is made of a beautifully grained dense wood which is assumed to be teak and decorated with inlays of silver as pictured.  Of note is the window carved for the Royal or God to see out of.  Unknown age but shows significant patina indicative of early 1900's or older.  Very high level of workmanship for southeast Asia.  Overall length of 21 1/2" (in sheath) with blade length of 9.75".  If anyone has insight into this curio, please contact, I am sure there are cultural meanings to its unusual attributes.  Thanks for looking!
